Message from Ann Owens

 

     I have been asked to say a few words about
Sherry Covington.  I think I can do that!. 

Sherry and I go back a long way....1986 when she
was president of BWGA and I was a new
golfer.  We played in many partner tournaments! 

You can read about her history with our club by
looking through the scrapbooks.....many of them
Sherry assembled. 

But here's a sample of her involvement in the club.
Sherry has held every elected position and most of
the appointed ones: president, VP, Sec., Treas.,
Rep, tournament chair and she held some of these
positions multiple times.  AND, she'd fill the vacancies
until officers arrived in the fall. 

The pictures in the scrapbooks will show Sherry winning the President's cup in 1985, 87, & 89

as well as most of the club tournaments including representing our club at CRICT.

Sherry was also instrumental in starting the Ladies Twilight League, Ts and Fs, the Diamond Cup, Breast Cancer Tournaments, and the O'Decker couples tourney in Jan. 1984.

 It was Sherry who suggested we change the name of the President's Cup to honor

Flo Haslett, a longtime member of the club.

While many of you were gone Sherry spent the summers paying the club's bills, shipping jackets, getting plaques engraved, breaking in new golf pros, organizing the welcome back, recruiting cleaning crews to spiff up the place, helping with summer tournaments and the girl's golf team....and if there was a special project like the fans outside....

Sherry would make sure it was completed.

 Generally speaking, she's been the golf hostess AND MVP (most valuable person) of BWGC! 

We will all miss Sherry when she leaves.......but, I will miss her the most!

Thanks to all of you for the beautiful picture, roses and gift

card at the course....I will be getting a new golf bag for

sure.....I was pretty much taken by surprise and for once in my

 life at a loss for words. This club is pretty darned special and

 will miss you all but will see you maybe at the Invitational,

 plan to keep my membership here. Deb Z, the picture is

awesome and thanks to all that signed the back. My world

has been a bit of a train wreck the past month, but saw doctor

 yesterday and all is good....don't see him for 3 months......I

 was looking at the picture of me and the picture.......I was

happier than I look in it.......he he he....thanks again
