Remembering Nan Wetzel

Rally for the Cure 2010
The Cancer Tournament was dedicated to Nan Wetzel.
She had a sweet swing. It was slow and fluid. She knew how to play a draw and to
maneuver the ball. It is no wonder she was 2004 club champion and got a
hole-in-one on # 14 in Dec. 2007.
After # 13 she often ran home for supplies which she shared
….hand warmers,food, refreshments.

Remember how she would write golfing tips on her untied shoes, hand, and golf cart visor. Some were:
BOB: hit the bottom of the ball,
Head down, ass up.

The inside cover of the 2008 and 2010 Handbook was written by Nan.
It said:
There are many good things to be derived from playing golf.
No matter what your skill level, you will:
Make many new friends, some for a lifetime
Enjoy being outdoors
Take pleasure from a shot you didn’t know you could make
Stay healthier and live longer
Look younger than your years
Learn to be a good sport
Be exceptionally kind to new members, first impressions last forever
Learn a variety of sayings to use on the golf course and many acronyms
Hear a lot of very funny jokes
Learn to laugh until you are weeping, at the funny things you do while playing this game, and make others laugh, too
The Blythe Women’s Golf Association is home to players of all skill levels so mix it up and play with everyone.
Above all, never apologize for a bad shot or a bad game (unless you do it on purpose).
Nan, We miss you.

Nanine passed away September 28, 2009 of lung cancer in Sequim, Washington.
Nan and George made their home in the winter months in Blythe
(Mesa Bluffs # 28) for 12 years. Since Jan. 2008 the Yarhams reside in the old
Wetzel place.
Nan was an active and dedicated member of the Blythe Women’s Golf Assoc.
She served as vice-president, president, tournament chair, and was so good at
welcoming new members.

Nan was well known for the printing of our handbook and for her computer
expertise ie. purchasing the handicap and tournament programs. She was
instrumental in updating us electronically (microphone and voice recorder).
Nan went to many tournaments outside of Blythe either by herself or with a group
…..always bringing her pillow. Whatever vehicle was taken, she drove.
She was a great ambassador.
When the LPGA came to Washington, she would golf in the Pro Am. She played
with BigMama – Joanne Conner. One year she was paired with Patti Sheehan.
The ladies at Dungeness Golf Course at Sequim, where Nan worked and was a
member, had a potluck. They all went to the driving range and hit a ball in unison.
Some Nan sayings:
Damn it all
Move your wrinkled butt
For crying in the sink
Why don’t you buy a pig and make your own butter
Put a song in your head. It prevents thinking too much.
